National Honey Bee Day and Library of the Year Celebration

 Sparta-Hancock County Library Celebrates!

On Saturday, August 20 the community came together to celebrate National Honey Bee Day. This is an annual celebration and collaboration with the local beekeeper members of Lake Country Beekeepers association.

The beekeepers demonstrate the equipment used to care for honey bees, how honey is made and what honey bees pollinate. The community gets an opportunity to learn and to see up close how necessary bees are to their food sources as well as how important it is to support pollinator gardens and pesticide free gardening practices.

In addition, Sparta-Hancock County Library celebrated Azalea Regional Library System being named Georgia's 2021 Library of the Year. Each year a library or system is recognized for their programming efforts and outreach to their community. Azalea Regional Library System is a nine library system that provides services to over 170,000 community members. Each library serves its community through programming and partnership programs.

Mayor Allen Haywood, County Chairperson Sistie Hudson and AZRLS Executive Director Stacy Brown shared how vital the library is to its community and how the history of the library, the community leadership's support and collaboration as well as the programs geared to provide services makes Sparta-Hancock County Library 'The Heart of the Community'.
