What We're Growing At The Library

March winds are bringing in April showers which bring about renewed life in the world. Spring and growth is all around us.

We're growing so much at our library and in so many ways.

NEW BOOKS!

We are so excited every time we have new books to offer at our library. Through a grant our wonderful Friends of Hancock County Library  provided us with quite a number of wonderful books for our children and youth at the library. We've been working hard to organize and clean up our collection. These new books will add greatly to the fiction and especially non-fiction collection of books for the young student. These books will help them in their class studies to create reports or to explore what interests them.

BEE OBSERVATORY!

Our wonderful Queen Honey Bee has been very active with her Honey Bee family in creating new life! The bee observatory is all abuzz with activity. Also, our friends at the Lake Country Beekeepers Association have renewed their beekeepers monthly meetings. They meet each third Thursday of the month. If you've any interest in learning more about honey bees and beekeeping, this is a wonderful opportunity for you!

AWE LEARNING STATIONS!

We have five AWE Learning Stations at our library! These robust computers provide the young students with fantastic games in every subject! They help the student from early learning to middle school learn while having fun. Two of our new AWE Learning Stations are in our new junior/teen corner....

CODING CORNER

We're working on creating a fun interactive spot in our library especially for our juniors and teens. We're hoping to inspire curiosity and creativity in our teens in the world of and in the possibilities for them in Coding! We're hoping to create a Coding Club for the students...more to come soon!

TEEN GAMING TOURNAMENT

We're working on planning a Teen Gaming Tournament soon that will pitch their gaming skills and find who will be the winner. We're excited about this opportunity and expect it to be quite a lot of fun for our teens!

STORY TIME
We're hosting a weekly story time on Fridays at 10 am.....but, we're always open and ready to read to any child or children when they come in. If you'd like for one of our library staff to read a story, just ask! We're always happy to take the time to read a fun story to our young patrons!

BINGO for BOOKS!

BINGO is back! We're excited to have this fun time with our patrons! BINGO is such a fun game and in this case quite rewarding! We have a number of books for all ages - so come and have fun with us Thursday nights at 4pm for BINGO for BOOKS!

LIBRARY LEARNING GARDEN

We have plans posted throughout our library of our fantastic Library Learning Garden. This garden will be located just behind the library. We're planning a large green open space surrounded by raised planters and stages for programs. This is going to be the perfect place to extend your library visit. We'd love for you to come, enjoy our activities, check out books and then go to the garden for some fun and fresh air. In the future we plan to host programs or to have a community partner host a program that will entertain, educate and bring our community together! Watch us grow!

SEED LIBRARY

We're gathering seeds for a Seed Library! We're so excited and see this as a natural extension of our Honey Bee Observatory and our upcoming Library Learning Garden. We'd love to grow our seed library to include seeds collected by our patrons. All you will have to do is come to the library, review the list of seeds available and 'check out' a packet of seeds. Each packet will contain 10-12 seeds, depending on seed size, that you can then take home and plant! This gives you an opportunity to learn about a great pollinator plant, for our bees, and to grow your own flowers, herbs and vegetables! Coming Very Soon.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

This year our Summer Reading Program is all about undersea adventures! We have 10 themed weeks planned filled with activities and some performers! Keep posted for more information coming soon!
