Fall Book Reviews by Hancock County Library Staff

Our wonderful Hancock County Library Staff share their latest book reviews:

Well I took a little break from the mysterious English salt mash & murder to travel back in time to 1935 Key West. Told from the perspective of 3 women as a devastating hurricane barrels toward them and running from other forces they can’t control, their paths intersect. The story was okay but it really made me want to learn more about the Labor Day hurricane which is still considered one of the deadliest ever & the destruction of Flagler’s Folly.

Books 3&4 in the Ruth Galloway series - the plots are pretty solid, the story’s moved briskly & the characters seem to wrap in and around each other in all sorts of ways. Worth the read.

An interesting premise - the ability to jump into a story & interact with the characters but you aren’t suppose to alter the tale. It’s a YA novel & it’s not too bad, skews young...

The 2nd in the Ruth Galloway series. I do enjoy the books - lite, quick mysteries, a fair amount of history to make it interesting but not too much to weigh it down, relatable but flawed characters, brisk pace & the location always serves as a character all on its own.

A sometimes sad but sweet & touching story about friendship & love & surviving. Set in Seattle & revolving around the World’s Fair of 1909 & 1962. Well worth the stroll through history.

A pretty solid little mystery. The first in the Ruth Galloway series. An archeologist/bone specialist who finds herself helping the police solve a kidnapping & murder. She’s flawed & a bit socially awkward but she’s also pretty normal & relatable. Definitely worth the time & evidently folks like her as there are about 13 other books in the series.

Maeve Binchy books just seem to soothe my reader’s heart. Not sure if it’s her storytelling or the characters or locale but something about her work is quieting & calming & it’s nice to find characters I like rather than ones I want to beat sense in to. 😏 “Circle of Friends” is my favorite of hers but I did enjoy this one. It’s a quick, lite read that just makes you feel better.

We hope you enjoyed these reviews and will try out some of these books. Please let us know which ones you like!
